As a manufacturer of products for the outdoor
industry, we at Wyoming Wear believe proper education is one key
to conservation that will benefit all of us. We suggest the National
Outdoor Leadership School (NOLS), based in Lander, Wyoming as an
excellent source of outdoor education.

According to NOLS information, they
are "the premiere teacher of outdoor skills and leadership,
offering courses from 10 days to full semesters in the world's most
spectacular wilderness classrooms. Since 1965, more than 45,000
people have turned to NOLS to learn sea kayaking, backpacking,
sailing, mountaineering, kayaking, horsepacking and canoeing."
NOLS teaches and practices "Leave No Trace" techniques as follows:
- Camp at least 100' (40 paces) from meadows,
streams, and lakeshores.
- Do not shortcut trail switchbacks.
- Lakes and streams may be contaminated. Best
water treatment is to bring water to a vigorous boil.
- Keep soaps and detergents out of lakes and streams.
- Bury human waste 8 inches deep, and at least
100' away from water, trails and campsites.
- The use of gas stoves is quick and clean.
- Wood and trash fires are prohibited in many
wilderness areas.
- Pack out all your trash.
